Career Coach API Breaking Changes: Updated US Geographies & New Field

The completion of this work has been achieved. Kindly refer to the original communication for detailed instructions on opting into the US 2024.4 datarun, as well as a reminder regarding any potential breaking changes that may occur.

The scheduled maintenance is currently in progress, with a planned release set for the week of October 28th. We will continue to provide updates regarding our progress.

Lightcast is releasing the US 2024.4 datarun the week of October 28, 2024. To consume the updated data, you’ll need to opt-in due to breaking changes in how you consume the Careers and Jobs APIs.

The two changes coming:

• To return similar careers, Lightcast is now using similarOccs instead of similarByCapabilitiesInterests and/or similarBySkillsExperience. - O*NET has stopped updating these two fields and is now using ‘Related Careers’. - similarByCapabilitiesInterests and similarBySkillsExperience will be deprecated in the US 2025.1 datarun.
• This data incorporates a vast amount of geography changes: There are numerous changes to MSAs across the country and all Connecticut counties are changing.

To opt into 2024.4 once it’s released:

• Careers API: Add query parameter datarun=2024_4 to your queries.
• Jobs API: Add query parameter datarun=2024_4 to your queries.

What happens if you don’t opt into 2024.4?

• You’ll remain on 2024.3 until next year when 2025.1 is released, which will contain the updated geography codes and where the fields similarByCapbilitiesInterests and similarbySkillsExperience will be removed in favor of the field similarOccs.
